The recently re-branded training provider, ALS, has received a 'Good' rating from Estyn, with inspectors praising the company's strong strategic planning  that aims to encourage economic growth and the strong personal support they provide that encourages learning.

The Inspectorate for Education and Training in Wales visited the training provider in November 2017, just before they were acquired by ACT, Wales' leading training provider.

ALS, now based in Cardiff, delivered apprenticeships and skills training solutions to over 1,200 businesses across Wales and England last year and specialise in areas such as leadership, insurance and financial services, IT professional, data analytics, project management and contact centres across Wales and England.

The recent Estyn report awards ALS with 'Good' for all of the inspection areas, which include standards; wellbeing and attitudes to learning; teaching and learning experiences; care, support and guidance; and leadership and management.

The report summary asserts that ALS's comprehensive range of programmes meets the needs of learners and employers well. The report also comments that the quality of training and assessment is effective in helping learners to make progress.

The inspectors highly praised the teaching and learning provision at ALS and stated: “Many learners and employers benefit from particularly strong personal support that encourages learning. They have been particularly effective in working with employers to develop and deliver a range of innovative and tailored higher apprenticeship programmes to meet employers’ and learners’ needs such as bespoke programmes in information technology, statistics and financial services.”

Additionally, the report remarked that: “Strategic planning pays very good attention to the aims of the Welsh Government to develop high level skills that will encourage economic growth. This enables the provider to be well placed to support several Welsh and UK government departments to support their own apprenticeship programmes.”

Sarah John, Director at ALS and Chair of the National Training Federation Wales (NTfW) commented: “We are very pleased with our latest Estyn report which highlights our strengths as a training provider and demonstrates that we are continuing to improve our service.

‘We are proud of Estyn’s recognition of our hard work with employers to create tailored higher apprenticeship programmes, as well as the steps we take to keep learners on track if they are at risk of dropping off programme. After all, learners and employers are at the core of our business.”

Helena Williams, Director at ALS, added: “Thank you to all our staff and the employers we work with who have been involved in this process, our successful inspection is a result of all your hard work and commitment.”
